The Nunnery

Situated in the mountains of northern India Jangchup Chosling is home to approximately 65 nuns.
As well as providing all the usual services of a monastic institution the nunnery acts as the local care home for orphaned or destitute girls.
In 1997 we took on the sponsorship of 4 such children and have been sponsoring them ever since. In 1999 our sponsorship made it possible for the two older girls to attend the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies. This was the first time that any of the nuns from Jangchup Chosling had been given the opportunity to study beyond primary school level. The experiment was so successful that the nunnery now has 14 nuns studying at the Institute.
As well as sponsoring the 4 nuns we also provide practical support.
Major donations to date include: -

  • Solar electrical power system
  • Sewing machines, tailoring classes and sufficient cloth for the nuns to learn tailoring skills and to replace their rather worn out robes.
