Yes that’s me! Doing the 2009 abseil. It was just such a brilliant experience and I can totally, unreservedly recommend it.
All the participants who signed up went down without any problems and there was such a buzzy atmosphere afterwards.
Just look at that view!
And now we have the chance to repeat the event on 18th Sept 2010 but this is definitely going to be the last year and places are limited to 35 people.
Don’t miss this opportunity. Guy’s has now got all the funding it needs and the tower WILL be refurbished in 2011 and that means no more abseiling.
At this stage I’m just looking for expressions of interest – no commitment. But the people who sign up now are the most likely to be the ones bouncing down the building next autumn. Will one of them be you?

Vicky’s Story
Thanks to Links India I was given the opportunity to brace myself and abseil down 350 foot of Guys Hospital.
The initial numbing terror combined with the ecstatic exhilaration was something I’d never come across before.
The trained team of attractive young men who gently explained how it all worked were highly professional and instilled the trust that was needed to be lowered blowing in the wind on a few ropes.
Venturing out onto the roof of Guys hospital was wild, the Tower of London beneath looked like toy town and Big Ben was hardly visible.
Harnessed up, one by one we were safely lowered from a scaffolded area. This first lowering was the only tough bit..once over the edge and slowly walking down the building, I began to feel I was well on my way to achieving something massive. Overcoming fear is what was happening, it was a fantastic and empowering feeling.
The abseil took about 8 minutes. You can lower yourself at your own pace, the speed at which you can travel increases as you descend…for the last half I remember happily bombing down and hardly ever needing to touch the wall.
Once on solid ground I was euphoric. I’d raised some money for the children that Links-India looks after and I’d done something truly remarkable for myself
I strongly recommend it !
